*Initial intake
This includes a thorough review of school reports and IEPS, relevant medical or psychology reports or additional assessments. It also
includes oral and or written interviews with support staff such as the
classroom teacher, physical therapist or behavioral specialist as well
as family members.
*Skills EvaluationA client’s skill levels (in relation to AAC) are determined using a combination of three approaches. 1. standardized measures when appropriate such as published test or profiles 2. completion of sub-skill activities, such as icon recognition and navigation 3. Clinical observation of actual device and software use in contextual activities.*Written ReportThe AAC report includes a summary of the initial intake, results of the skills evaluation and a comprehensive recommendation of the most appropriate communication system for the client. Recommendations may include a low tech system, a high tech system or a specific supplemental therapeutic strategy or any combination thereof.
